Deep Inside -- Track 4
The Story
I wrote this song between January and May of 2011 specifically for this album, hence its relatively more complex nature. (I didn't write the other songs with a recording studio in mind.)
Jeremiah 20:7 and a sermon by a 5th century saint inspired me in writing. When I read that sermon by St. Peter Chrysologus, my heart burned inside me in a way that made me almost blush on the outside, too, because it captured so well the passion with which God had been redesigning my interior life.
The feeling I try to convey with this song is the progress of seduction, starting with a quieter, more timid sound, and building to a dramatic crescendo. God is the Greatest Lover, who knows exactly how to draw the soul to Himself, never crushing, never forcing, but leading, wooing, drawing us by the heart, until we feel that if we do not give Him everything, we will surely die.

The Lyrics
You seduced me Lord, you
You drew me to you Lord, you
You would not let me look away
Wounded by your love I
I longed to see your face I’m
Intoxicated by your flame
Working side by side you
You erased my fear you
You led me into a new life
Favored with your grace I
I longed to see your face I
I cannot live without you in sight
Your love does not stop at what’s possible
Your love makes its own way through
Patiently you’ve drawn me clear
And now I belong to you
Deep inside my heart you
You broke away the chains you
You flooded me with your peace
Safe in your embrace I
I meet you face to face I
I praise the glory of your name
My love will not stop at what’s possible
My love makes its own way through
You have given all to me
So I give my all to you
I give my all to you
I give my all to you
Oh Lord,
Deep inside my heart you
You broke away the chains you
(Like a fire in my bones/Like a hunger in my soul)
